Liverpool council has extended the early bird discount period for landlords applying for a selective licence under the council's new licensing scheme until 31st July 2022. The selective licence schemes covers approximately 45,000 private rented sector homes spread across 16 of the city's wards. However, the council says that so far only 18,000 landlords have applied for their property licences without which it will be illegal for a landlord to operate a non exempt privately rented home within the boundaries of the areas designated as being subject to selective licensing. The original discount period expired on 30th June.

The full licence fee per property is £550 but with the early bird discount this is reduced to £380 and after 31st July the council will commence investigations into those properties which remain unlicensed.
