95% of rented properties will receive £150 council tax rebate and are urged to set up direct debits with their council if they don't already have one

The Dept for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities is urging households to prepare for receiving the £150 portion of their energy bill rebate designed to help with the rise in cost of energy bills from April. The department says that 4 out of 5 households will receive the rebate including 95% of households that rent their homes.

People who pay their council tax by direct debit will receive the rebate direct into their bank accounts. Those households without direct debits will be contacted by their council with guidance on how to make a claim.

The department also said there is a £144m fund for Local Authorities to help vulnerable households who may not qualify for the £150 council tax rebate such as people on low incomes whose homes are in council tax bands E to H.
