Ashfield District Council warns time is running out for those private landlords who have not yet submitted Selective Licensing applications

Ashfield District Council has warned that the deadline for landlords to submit applications for selective licences to operate properties in 2 areas of the district is 25th October.

The council's selective licensing scheme in the areas of Sutton and Stanton Hill went live in July 2022 meaning that all landlords with non exempt single household rental properties in these areas will need licenses in order to continue operating their properties. If a landlord hasn't submitted an application for their licensable property by the deadline date they will be at risk of being regarded as having committed an offence and thus risk prosecution of the imposition of a civil penalty.

A list of affected streets and full guidance on the licensing scheme can be found on the council's website and Paul Parkinson, Director of Housing and Assets at the council says "Selective Licensing is an important tool that allows us to make improvements to, and regulate, the private housing in the areas which it is applied to ..... most landlords within the licensing area have registered their properties but time is running out for those few that have not."
