Luton Council selective and additional licensing scheme to start on 1st April 2022 - landlords to be charged £122 fee for incomplete applications
Luton Council's South Ward selective and additional licensing scheme will come into effect on 1st April. The council advises that only "valid" licence applications will be processed and that applicant landlords will be charged a £122 administration fee if their application is incomplete when submitted. Applications are to be submitted electronically and so landlords must be able to upload their documentation as they complete relevant sections of the application. Application information and guidance can be found here.
In January, when announcing the designation, Cllr. Tom Shaw (portfolio holder for housing) said "These measures will improve the lot of tenants ... giving them peace of mind that their premises are being regulated [and that introduction of the] measures raises the game of landlords too ..." as he anticipated that Luton would see similar improvements as an outcome of selective and additional licensing as had been seen by other Local Authority areas where licensing schemes operated.
