Haringey Council selective licensing scheme with Government approval comes into force on 17th November

Haringey Council's new large selective licensing scheme will go live on 17th November meaning that, after that date, any private rented sector landlord operating rental properties in the borough without having applied for or been granted a licence (per property) to so operate will be operating illegally.
Although most local authorities running selective licensing schemes offer an application submission grace period (usually 3 or sometimes 6 months), private landlords with licensable but unlicensed properties are still technically committing an offence if they have not at least made their application before the go live date of a licence scheme.
As the Haringey selective licensing scheme is above 20% of the borough area or the size of the PRS in the borough, it required prior approval by the Secretary of State at DLUHC. This approval was granted in August this year in Haringey's case.
Applications for licences can be made and information and guidance accessed on Haringey Council's selective property licensing webpage.
