After a successful prosecution under the Environmental Protection Act Hull City Council has given a warning to landlords that "there will be consequences" for failure to manage accumulated household waste at rented residential properties in the city.

Amazing Lets Ltd was prosecuted in relation to 2 rented properties one of which has "significant accumulations of waste" on the landlord and in its outbuildings and the second had waste at the rear which was causing "odours and attracting vermin". The letting company was fined in total £7,222.75 including costs and a victim surcharge.

The council's environmental enforcement manager, Mark Cornall, said "Landlords and property owners must take responsibility for any waste on their land - there will be consequences for failure to do so."

The council also urges "renters" to speak with their landlord or property management agent for "help and advice" on council services dealing with recycling and household waste disposal.
