The landlord of a private rented sector property in Lewisham and their property manager have had fines handed down by Bromley Magistrates for failure to comply with a council notice requiring them to repair a leak from the bathroom ceiling at the property.

The tenants complained to the council about the leak in November 2021 and the council instructed the landlord and manager to carry our repairs but, despite several other warning from the council, no repairs were done and the bathroom ceiling consequently collapsed cutting off power to the lights at the property in the process. The tenants were forced to find alternative accommodation.

Both defendants were ordered to pay a fines of £3,333.33 and victim surcharges of £172 each whilst the landlord had to pay costs of £562.50 and the property manager costs of £521.

Once again the oddity is that this is yet another case where ample and repeated warning was given to the defendants on the consequences of non compliance but the warnings were ignored.
