Property and energy sector bodies say Govt will need to do more on domestic energy efficiency incentives

Whilst welcoming aspects of the Chancellor's spring statement in relation to home energy costs Propertymark (a professional body for letting agents) and Energy UK (a trade association for the energy industry) both come to the conclusion that the challenges of current market conditions mean that the Govt will need to do more to incentivise take up of greener and more efficient home energy options by private sector landlords and households.

Energy UK's response to the spring statement says that "projections for bills this autumn are truly alarming" and "despite the expansion of the Household Support Fund [to help vulnerable customers] we think the government will need to do more .... and crucially help more businesses and households access green technologies.".

Propertymark, commenting on the April 1st start of the £450 million Boiler Upgrade Scheme suggest that the grants available under the scheme are still not enough to offset the affordability concerns of potential landlord/household applicants due to current technology costs (a typical air source heat pump will cost from £7000 to £13,000) and, given the already poor energy efficiency of UK homes, "many homeowners and landlords are likely to need a bigger incentive ..." as "living costs spiral upwards."
