Private sector tenants suffer lack of awareness of energy performance rating of their rented home
46% of private rented sector tenants are unsure of the energy performance rating of the home that they live in according to a survey of 2,048 tenants carried out on behalf of the NRLA. A further 11% who were given the EPC information by their landlord could not remember the rating level of their home and 22% said they had never been given the information by their landlord (this latter should not include landlords with a selective licence as they are required by licence conditions to provide tenants with an EPC).
The research was carried out for the NRLA by Dynata and whilst the survey showed a majority of the landlords of the surveyed tenants were positive about installing energy performance upgrades (such as smart meters or double glazing) only a minority of tenants said they would be willing to pay higher rents if upgrades were installed.
