The Leasehold Reform (Ground Rent) Act passes into law

The Leasehold Reform (Ground Rent) bill is now an Act of Parliament. This means that once the act comes into force (in 6 months) new leaseholds will be subject to a "peppercorn rent", in other words the ground rent will be a nominal amount. However, concerns still remain that because the act applies to new leaseholds only, existing leaseholds will still be at risk of having the ground rent increased by Freeholders and the only avenue open to residents with existing leaseholds will be to go through the process of enfranchisement and thus buying the freehold of the building their home is in.
