Home Office publishes latest versions of right to rent Codes of Practice for landlords
The Home Office has published the latest versions of its right to rent Codes of Practice for landlords, agents and homeowners.
There are 2 draft documents in the suite of codes just published alongside the existing codes. The 2 codes cover the steps landlords, agents and homeowners need to take to avoid liability for civil penalties for breaching the Immigration Act 2014 and how to avoid illegal discrimination when carrying out right to rent checks.
It appears that the draft documents update, as of March 2022, the existing codes in relation to "adjusted guidance" on how to correctly carry out rent checks during the Covid-19 period. However, whether in existing or draft form, these documents are extremely important for landlords who will need to know how to carry out relevant tenant checks digitally from April 2022.
