Private sector landlords encouraged to help house Afghan evacuees via £5m Govt funding scheme for Local Authorities

The Government is asking private landlords to pledge offers of suitable accommodation to people evacuated from Afghanistan to the UK. Over 300 Local Authorities have already offered homes and private landlords are seen as being able to support those authorities with further housing offers from the private rented sector.

Backed by a £5m fund the scheme, using a dedicated online housing portal, requires applicant landlords to guarantee their property offer will "meet standard safety regulations and landlord responsibilities".

The initiative could benefit landlords with selective licences whose properties have been inspected as they will be able to submit their inspection report (and, if needed, any evidence that defects found during the inspection have been dealt with) in support of their offer of accommodation.
