Rogue landlord fined £57k for running an unlicensed HMO in Slough

A landlord, described as a "slum landlord" has been fined a total of £57, 577.92 including £5k per offence, costs and a victim surcharge by Reading magistrates. The landlord had been granted an HMO licence restricted to 1 year for his Slough property due to concerns about previous breaches of housing regulations. That licence was not renewed in 2019.

The landlord was convicted in his absence of a total of 11 offences - 10 of breaches of management regulations (including overcrowding) and 1 of operating an unlicensed HMO.

Councillor Marin Carter of Slough Council said "no tenant should have to live this way"
